The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reveals that the pitching coach will remain Ray Searage, while managerial finalist Jeff Banister will be the third-base coach. Nick Leyva will serve as bench coach with Gregg Ritchie as hitting coach.
All that is left to fill is first-base coach and bullpen coach.
Searage (pictured) replaced Joe Kerrigan as pitching coach upon Kerrigan's firing in August. He impressed management and players, with pitchers improving under his guidance.
Banister finished 2010 as the Pirates' bench coach after Gary Vasho's dismissal, but served eight years as minor-league field coordinator prior to the elevation.
Ritchie has never hit the majors as either a player or coach, but that will chance in 2011 with his naming of hitting coach. Ritchie has been the minor-league hitting coordinator for the past three seasons, causing him to be familiar with many of the players currently on the Pirates' roster. That familiarity was important to Pirates brass.
Lastly, Leyva is an outside hire, likely tabbed by Hurdle himself. Leyva was Cito Gaston's bench coach in Toronto prior to Gaston's retirement. John Farrell replaced Gaston and named Don Wakamatsu bench coach.
